Tucson’s Lunasonde Selected for Defense Innovation OnRamp Accelerator

A Tucson technology company developing a new way to see beneath the Earth’s surface is moving deeper into the defense market.

Lunasonde has been selected for the Fall 2026 cohort of the Defense Innovation OnRamp Hub: Arizona accelerator, a 10-week program designed to help emerging technology companies work with the Department of Defense and transition commercial technologies toward military applications.

Lunasonde is developing proprietary aerial georadiotomography technology for subsurface detection. The company says its system can survey broad areas and identify features including tunnels, voids, underground facilities and mineral deposits, while also supporting underwater exploration.

Those capabilities create clear potential applications in national security, infrastructure and resource exploration.

The accelerator is particularly relevant because one of the largest challenges facing defense startups is not necessarily inventing technology. It is navigating the path from a promising commercial product to a technology that can be evaluated, procured and deployed by the federal government.

Arizona is increasingly building infrastructure around that transition.

The state already has deep aerospace and defense roots, particularly in Southern Arizona, and programs connecting startups with military customers can help turn that existing industrial base into a stronger defense-technology startup ecosystem.

For the Silicon Oasis, companies like Lunasonde represent an important category: Arizona-born deep-tech companies building defensible intellectual property around difficult physical-world problems.
