Isola’s Chandler operation enters new growth phase under Principal Mineral

One of Chandler’s longstanding advanced-electronics manufacturers could be entering another period of growth.

Principal Mineral, the critical-materials company that acquired Chandler-headquartered Isola Group in June, has integrated the Arizona operation with its copper-foil business in South Carolina and is evaluating additional expansion over the next six to 12 months, according to the Phoenix Business Journal.

Isola manufactures copper-clad laminates and dielectric prepregs used in printed circuit boards.

Those materials sit deep inside the technology supply chain but are essential to products ranging from AI servers and communications equipment to aerospace, defense and automotive systems.

Principal Mineral’s strategy is to vertically integrate more of that supply chain domestically.

Its portfolio also includes Camden Copper, which the company describes as North America’s only producer of electrodeposited copper foil. Combining copper foil with Isola’s laminate capabilities creates a more integrated U.S. platform for advanced printed circuit board materials.

The acquisition was accompanied by approximately $280 million in new funding intended to support integration, manufacturing-capacity expansion and technology development.

For Arizona, the latest growth signal is significant.

The state’s advanced-manufacturing story increasingly extends beyond headline semiconductor fabs. A durable technology ecosystem also requires the materials, components and specialized manufacturers that feed aerospace systems, AI infrastructure, defense electronics and computing hardware.

Chandler has spent decades building that kind of industrial base.

If Principal Mineral expands Isola’s Arizona operation, it would add another layer to a supply chain already becoming strategically important as the United States works to reduce dependence on overseas production.

That is an important part of Arizona’s emergence as the Silicon Oasis: not simply assembling finished technology, but producing more of the materials underneath it.
