Air Products Commits $250M to Expand Arizona’s Semiconductor Infrastructure

Arizona’s semiconductor buildout is creating another layer of investment beyond the fabs and advanced-packaging campuses themselves.

Air Products announced Sept. 16 that it has signed a long-term agreement with a major semiconductor manufacturer and plans to invest approximately $250 million in Arizona to build, own and operate new high-purity industrial-gas infrastructure.

The customer was not publicly identified, but Air Products said the infrastructure will support semiconductor manufacturing and advanced-packaging operations in Arizona. The project will include hydrogen-generation units, carbon-dioxide purification systems, bulk systems for helium, hydrogen and carbon dioxide, along with storage, purification, analytical equipment and pipeline infrastructure. Supply is expected to begin in phases.

The investment matters because semiconductor manufacturing depends on an extensive network of highly specialized suppliers. Fabs and packaging facilities require not only equipment and talent, but also exceptionally reliable supplies of ultra-high-purity gases, chemicals, water, power and other critical inputs.

Air Products already has deep Arizona roots. Its Chandler operation has supported the Phoenix semiconductor market since 1981 and operates an ultra-high-purity nitrogen pipeline network serving customers across the region.

That existing infrastructure is becoming increasingly valuable as Arizona’s semiconductor cluster grows in scale and complexity.

The state’s emergence as a major U.S. chip hub is increasingly visible not simply through headline factory investments, but through the supplier ecosystem forming around them. Each additional specialized supplier makes the region more capable of supporting advanced manufacturing at scale.

That is an important part of the Silicon Oasis thesis: durable technology ecosystems are built through interconnected layers of manufacturing, infrastructure, talent and innovation—not through individual projects alone.
