By Kyle Macdonald, COO of Silicon Oasis
Arizona entrepreneur Chandra Prakash Pandey is using artificial intelligence to address a critical challenge: preventing accidents before they happen.
On a recent episode of Silicon Oasis Spotlight, Pandey shared the story behind Veotrex, an AI-powered surveillance software platform designed to help businesses improve safety, identify risks, and respond to potential incidents in real time.
A 2025 Arizona State University graduate, Pandey previously worked as an AI and machine learning engineer developing surveillance drone technology for the Department of Defense.
His interest in artificial intelligence began much earlier. Inspired by Iron Man as a middle school student, Pandey dreamed of building technology similar to Tony Stark's AI assistant, Jarvis.
But the motivation behind Veotrex became personal when his uncle suffered a serious eye injury at a steel factory in India after failing to wear protective eyewear. Pandey recognized an opportunity to use computer vision to identify safety violations before they result in injuries.
Rather than requiring businesses to install entirely new surveillance infrastructure, Veotrex integrates with existing camera systems to identify potential safety hazards.
The platform uses AI to detect situations such as employees missing required protective equipment or workers approaching dangerous machinery. When an issue is identified, safety managers can receive real-time alerts.
The goal is to help organizations take preventive action while improving workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
While Veotrex initially focused on industrial and construction environments, Pandey is exploring a particularly promising application in childcare.
The company is currently testing its technology with a construction business and working with a daycare facility.
In childcare settings, Veotrex can help monitor student-to-teacher ratios, identify unattended children, and flag situations requiring staff attention.
Pandey is also developing facial recognition capabilities intended to help daycare operators verify authorized individuals during child pickup.
With established competitors already serving industrial safety markets, Pandey sees an opportunity to differentiate Veotrex by focusing on the unique safety needs of childcare facilities.
Pandey represents a growing generation of Arizona entrepreneurs applying advanced AI technology to real-world challenges.
His journey from ASU graduate and defense technology engineer to startup founder highlights the potential for Arizona's universities and technical talent to produce innovative companies.
When asked what advice he would offer aspiring entrepreneurs, Pandey emphasized persistence and execution:
"Work as much as you can. Don't think about the outcome. It will eventually come."
As Veotrex continues developing its technology and exploring new markets, Pandey remains focused on a straightforward mission: using artificial intelligence to make everyday environments safer.
