Tucson's NuVox Therapeutics Eyes Public Markets Following FDA Fast Track Milestone

Arizona's biotechnology sector could soon add another publicly traded company.

Tucson-based NuVox Therapeutics has filed plans to raise up to $20 million through an initial public offering as it advances its lead therapeutic candidate, NanO2, an intravenous oxygen therapeutic designed to improve oxygen delivery to tissues affected by hypoxia. The company plans to list on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol NUOX.

The proposed IPO follows an important regulatory milestone. Earlier this month, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted Fast Track designation to NanO2 for the treatment of adults experiencing acute ischemic stroke, a designation intended to accelerate the development and review of promising therapies addressing serious medical conditions.

Founded in 2008, NuVox Therapeutics is led by President and CEO Rong Wang, with Dr. Evan Unger serving as co-founder and chairman of the board. The company's broader platform focuses on oxygen therapeutics for diseases where low oxygen levels contribute to poor patient outcomes, including stroke, cancer treatment resistance, and acute respiratory distress syndrome.

According to its regulatory filings, NuVox intends to use the proceeds from the offering to advance clinical trials for NanO2 while supporting additional product development and general corporate operations. The company has previously raised more than $21 million in private financing alongside $10.8 million in non-dilutive funding from organizations including the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Department of Defense, and BARDA.

If completed, the offering would represent another notable milestone for Arizona's life sciences ecosystem and become the state's second biotech IPO within roughly a year, underscoring continued momentum for homegrown healthcare innovation as public markets begin reopening for biotechnology companies.
