TSMC Partners with ASU on Semiconductor Training Program

Arizona’s semiconductor workforce pipeline is accelerating as Arizona State University and TSMC deepen their collaboration to prepare technicians for one of the fastest-growing industries in the state.

ASU recently announced the launch of its new Foundations for Equipment Technician Program, a fast-track training initiative developed alongside TSMC Arizona to help meet surging labor demand tied to the company’s expanding fabrication operations in the Valley.

The program is designed to train semiconductor equipment technicians in a matter of weeks or months rather than through traditional multi-year academic pathways. Participants who complete the program and meet requirements will receive a guaranteed interview with TSMC Arizona, while also earning industry-recognized credentials applicable across the broader semiconductor ecosystem.

As Arizona continues positioning itself as a national semiconductor hub, workforce development has become one of the ecosystem’s most important priorities. TSMC Arizona expects to hire thousands of workers to support its growing fabrication footprint, including more than 100 equipment technicians by the end of this year alone.

The initiative reflects a broader shift happening across the state: universities, industry leaders, and economic development organizations increasingly aligning to build scalable talent pipelines capable of supporting advanced manufacturing growth.

Participants in the program will train in environments designed to replicate real semiconductor fabrication facilities, including access to labs and cleanroom infrastructure across the Phoenix metro area.

For Arizona, the announcement represents more than a workforce initiative — it signals the continued maturation of a semiconductor ecosystem rapidly becoming central to the state’s economic future.
