Startup Spotlight: Kuairu Turns Food Waste Into Opportunity
Arizona-based Kuairu is tackling food waste with a bold new technology:a solar-powered drying tower that rapidly dries fruits and vegetables, making them shelf-stable, reducing pathogens, and recapturing water in the process. Founded by Renata Coelho, Pedro Coelho, and U of A professor Goggy Davidowitz, Kuairu grew out of university research and is now scaling through Tech Launch Arizona. Standing 25 feet tall, the tower dries produce in hours instead of days—offering farmers and distributors a sustainable, zero-carbon way to extend the life of food. The opportunity is massive. At the Nogales, Arizona port of entry, more than 300M pounds of produce are discarded annually. Kuairu plans to deliver its first commercial system within two years, aiming to turn waste into value at scale. 🌵💡 Another example of Arizona innovation leading the way toward a more sustainable future.
