Phoenix Launches New Space Startup Accelerator
Phoenix is continuing to strengthen its position as an emerging aerospace and defense hub as Blacknight Space launches a new accelerator focused on the future of the commercial space economy.
The company recently announced Blacknight Space Labs, an accelerator program designed to support early-stage startups building across the broader space ecosystem — including infrastructure, logistics, data, and in-space services.
While much of the commercial space industry over the last decade has centered around launch vehicles and satellite deployment, a new wave of companies is beginning to focus on the systems and services needed to sustain long-term activity in orbit and beyond. Blacknight Space believes many of the sector’s defining companies have yet to be built.
The accelerator will invest up to $100,000 into selected startups participating in the inaugural cohort, which launches this September in Phoenix. The hybrid program will conclude with a demo day in December.
According to the company, participating founders will receive mentorship from aerospace operators, investors, founders, and government contracting experts while gaining support in fundraising, customer acquisition, product development, and navigating defense-sector partnerships.
The launch of Blacknight Space Labs reflects Arizona’s growing momentum across aerospace, defense, and dual-use technology — sectors increasingly becoming central pillars of the state’s innovation economy.
As national attention around space infrastructure and defense technology accelerates, Phoenix continues positioning itself as a meaningful destination for founders building in frontier industries.
For Arizona’s startup ecosystem, the announcement represents another signal that the state’s technology landscape is expanding far beyond traditional software and into strategically important industries shaping the future global economy.
