Lessons From a Phoenix Founder: When You’ve Got a Chance, Take It
By : Chad Bellin , Co-Founder of Disca & Silicon Oasis Ambassador Arizona is one of the best places in the world to start or grow a business. But let’s be honest — starting anything is scary. Whether you're 22 or 62, wealthy or bootstrapping, if you’ve got a shot… take it. Trust Your Instincts (But Verify) You know your industry. You’ve felt the pain points. That’s your unfair advantage — don’t let someone talk you out of it with generic advice. But don’t build in a vacuum either. Talk to people inside and outside your industry. Validate your ideas with real feedback and real data. Solve a Real Problem A lot of founders fall in love with “interesting” ideas that don’t actually hurt enough for people to pay to solve. Your job is to find a problem painful enough that someone will pull out a credit card. That’s the difference between a cool project and a business. Relationships Are the Ultimate Cheat Code Early traction often comes from people who already trust you. Our first big win at Disca came through a friend-of-a-friend. Real, generous relationships with other founders, customers, and even competitors are everything — especially in a community like Phoenix. TL;DR Trust your instincts — but test them Solve problems worth paying for Build relationships that actually matter If you're thinking about building something, maybe this is your time. - Chad Bellin 📰 Want more honest insights from Arizona founders ?
