Flagstaff-Based Katalyst Space Raises $12 Million Series A to Advance Satellite Servicing

Arizona's commercial space industry continues to gain momentum as Flagstaff-based Katalyst Space Technologies has closed a $12 million Series A financing led by Geodesic Capital, with participation from Fortitude Ventures. The funding will accelerate development of the company's Nexus-1 spacecraft, designed to service satellites already operating in geostationary orbit.

Scheduled to launch in 2027 aboard an Ariane 6 rocket, Nexus-1 will demonstrate on-orbit servicing by approaching a U.S. Space Force satellite to install a space domain awareness sensor before conducting rendezvous operations with additional national security and commercial spacecraft.

The funding follows another major milestone for the company. Katalyst is preparing—or, depending on mission timing, continuing efforts—on its LINK spacecraft, developed to rescue NASA's Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory. The mission is designed to rendezvous with the aging telescope, dock with it, and raise it into a higher orbit, extending its operational life while demonstrating a new generation of robotic satellite servicing capabilities.

Investors pointed to Katalyst's ability to execute quickly while tackling some of the aerospace industry's most technically demanding challenges. Since its founding in Flagstaff, the company has grown into a leader in autonomous spacecraft, robotic servicing, and space domain awareness technologies, expanding Arizona's presence in the rapidly growing commercial space economy.

Satellite servicing is widely viewed as one of the next frontiers of space infrastructure. Rather than replacing aging satellites, companies like Katalyst aim to repair, upgrade, reposition, and extend the lifespan of existing spacecraft, creating a more sustainable and cost-effective approach to operating critical assets in orbit.
