Arizona MedTech Startups Receive $1.2 Million to Accelerate Healthcare Innovation

Arizona's medical technology ecosystem continues to gain momentum as six emerging startups have secured a combined $1.2 million to advance innovative healthcare solutions through the Partnership for Economic Innovation's (PEI) Applied Research Centers.

The funding includes support from the Arizona Commerce Authority alongside matching investments from private-sector partners, underscoring Arizona's growing commitment to commercializing breakthrough healthcare technologies and supporting early-stage innovation.

The latest cohort spans a diverse range of medical applications, highlighting the breadth of innovation taking place across the state's health technology sector. The selected companies are developing solutions in women's health, medication management, senior care, neurology, cardiovascular monitoring, and epilepsy treatment—areas with significant potential to improve patient outcomes while addressing major healthcare challenges.

Among the companies receiving support is Prickly Pear Health, which is building an AI-powered platform designed to help women better understand and manage brain health during hormonal transitions. ScriptGuard is developing a reusable medication dispensing system intended to improve medication adherence and reduce prescription misuse. MiiCare is focused on helping older adults maintain independence through remote monitoring and personalized care technology.

The cohort also includes Serenity Neurotechnologies, which is advancing noninvasive neuromodulation technology for migraine treatment; UnityCare, developer of wearable technology for continuous cardiac monitoring; and Cortalis Neuro, which is creating software to optimize deep brain stimulation therapy for individuals living with drug-resistant epilepsy.

The funding reflects PEI's expanded vision for its Applied Research Centers, which recently broadened its scope beyond wearable technologies to support a wider range of medical technology innovations. The program continues to provide startups with access to research expertise, prototyping resources, commercialization support, and strategic partnerships designed to help move promising technologies from the laboratory to the marketplace.

A distinguishing feature of the program is its collaboration with Arizona's leading research institutions. Participating startups work alongside researchers from Arizona State University, the University of Arizona, and Mayo Clinic, providing founders with scientific expertise and resources that can accelerate product development and commercialization.

Arizona has steadily strengthened its position as a destination for healthcare innovation, supported by world-class research institutions, growing venture investment, and organizations dedicated to helping founders navigate the commercialization process. Programs like the Applied Research Centers help bridge the gap between research and market adoption, providing startups with both capital and access to the partnerships needed to scale.

As Arizona's bioscience and medical technology sectors continue to expand, investments like these reinforce the state's reputation as an emerging hub for entrepreneurs developing the next generation of healthcare solutions.
