Arizona life-science startup 3MB wins year of UACI incubation

An Arizona life-science startup is getting a year of laboratory space, mentorship and commercialization support through the University of Arizona Center for Innovation.

3MB Science & Technology has been selected for the UACI Sponsored Launch supported by the Town of Oro Valley and Oro Valley Chamber of Commerce.

The company is developing laboratory filtration and container-closure technology, including a low-cost, single-use device intended to let laboratories, healthcare providers and veterinary clinics safely filter and prepare materials without requiring a cleanroom or expensive equipment.

Beginning in October, 3MB will use dedicated laboratory space at UACI at Oro Valley for prototype development and testing. The company will also receive access to mentors, subject-matter experts, UACI programming and its broader industry network.

For an early-stage life-science company, access to specialized space can be nearly as important as access to capital. Laboratory infrastructure is expensive, and incubation programs can reduce the cost and friction between an idea, a validated prototype and a commercial product.

The announcement illustrates the role university-connected incubators can play in Arizona’s startup pipeline. UACI says it has supported more than 300 science- and technology-based startups.

Building Arizona’s Silicon Oasis requires environments where new companies can form, test technology and survive the earliest stages of commercialization.
