ACA Launches Office of Defense Innovation with SWMAC
By : Kyle Macdonald , Co-founder of Silicon Oasis Big news for Arizona’s innovation economy: The Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA) and Southwest Mission Acceleration Center (SWMAC), one of our Silicon Oasis pillars, just announced the launch of the Arizona Office of Defense Innovation (ODI) — a public-private initiative aimed at strengthening the state’s leadership in aerospace, defense, and dual-use tech. Created through the Fiscal Year 2026 budget and housed within the ACA, the ODI will serve as a central hub connecting the Department of Defense with industry, academia, and state agencies. This effort will help accelerate mission readiness, foster breakthrough innovation, and position Arizona as a proving ground for next-gen defense technologies. The office will focus on three key areas: Aerospace and Defense: Building on Arizona’s strong defense industry foundation. Dual-Use Technology: Advancing innovations that serve both military and civilian markets. Department of Defense Mission Growth: Expanding Arizona’s role in national security operations. As SWMAC CEO Drew Trojanowski said, this is “a monumental milestone.” And it’s just the beginning. With Arizona’s deep bench of military assets, research institutions, and entrepreneurial talent, ODI is set to play a critical role in shaping the future of defense tech. This is what happens when community, government, and innovation align.
